a beautiful pop of aqua…

hope your weekend was great!  I’ve been working on my dining room projects and I wanted to add a pop of color.  when I moved my cubbies to my craft room, it left a bare spot, which I filled with this vignette.

 

first, I took a grain sack-$10 and attached it to my gothic frame.

then, the garage sale cabinet was painted with martha stewarts “enamelware” paint.  and a clock knob-hobby lobby- was added.

    here’s the before…                          and after.         

I love the patina of my 3 ironstone platters, ceramic clock face and the vintage silverware.

my cloche is sitting on an old birdcage base, and an iron stone plate, that is topped with one on my cd clock faces.

metal roses…

I try not to post everyday, but, I did want to share this project, because, it’s related to yesterday’s metal stamping post. 

coke can roses

I attached them to my clipboard banner in my scrap room.  this pin is what inspired my project.  I love these clipboards, but, I needed 7 white roses to do my “vintage” banner.   and, since, I already had the supplies, my roses were free:)

here’s the finished banner with the roses.

to make them, after cutting up the coke can, I ran them through my die cutter with a spiral rose die.  this is what the die cuts look like.

then, just roll them up, starting on the outside rolling inward, and hot glue the bottoms in place.  I used needle nose pliers to bend the petals a bit, and spray painted them white on both sides.

I should mention, too, my interest in the metal projects first came from aimee at twigg studios.  awhile back she posted a tutorial and I pinned it.  she hand cut and hand punched her cute tags made from coke cans.  if you haven’t been to her site, please go check out her awesome projects:)

metal stamped tags…

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  its too hot for me outside, so, I tried stamping on metal this weekend.  below are some of the tags I did. you can see all the mistakes—some letters are punched too hard, too soft, crooked, ect.  I need more practice:)

but, this is fun and addictive!  I’m hoping to do some xmas tags and embellishments for my ornaments this year.  and I want to label some boxes in my craft room cubby, make some for my scrapbooking/card making, and for gifts—so many ways to customize anything.

basic supplies

hammer, steel striking block, blanks, sharpie, stamps, sanding block

edited:  forgot to mention--see the tag on the steel block?  i cut it out with a papertrey ink die and my die cutter from a coke can!  very inexpensive!  and the size of stamps i use here were 3mm or 1/8"--they came from hobby lobby.

the stamps come in a box-(red box in pic), but, they get jumbled up, so, my husband found a 2 x 4 scrap of pine and drilled holes into it.  to keep the holes somewhat orderly, he used a scrap of dotted paper, poked holes into the pine, and then, drilled following the poked holes.

sanding and a quick coat of paint and it’s almost done.  I’m going to add letters in front of each stamp, so, I can find a certain letter quickly.

I wish I had found this great video on youtube that explained how to line up the letters sooner.

chippy red garden chair…

I’m moving back outside for this post.  my garden is pretty much dead:(  this little chair was found without a seat, so I plopped some flowers into it and I’ve been babying it along.

when I get tired of decorative things in the house, they go to the garden.  this old shelf has a tin center, and I’m hoping it starts rusting-(IF we ever get rain).  I wrapped some old lace around the wreath, and added one of my clay pots.

old china plates are hanging on one section of the fence, next to the garden fireplace.

hi everyone! today, I’m joining “where bloggers create 2012”.  when I had a chance to re-do my room, I knew I wanted my favorite junk pieces and my husband’s furniture in the room.  (he built the 2 work tables, wall cubbie, pink cabinet, the vintage shelf over the window, and the tin awning over the bed).

this shelf is made of two porch columns, a door-(cut in half for the shelf), and the pink scalloped trim is from an old picture frame.  I printed out the letters onto a book text background and they are hanging on white clipboards.

hanging from the door shelf is an old birdcage with a chandelier inside it.

I painted the old shutters white, and added rose appliques to them.

I have a replacement to hold the garden tools… and its pink!

it’s hard to see, but, I painted this dresser pink and white, to match the tall cabinet, and added a applique to the door.  I think I’ll add curtains where the doors should be.

craft room daybed…

I’ve been working on my craft room, and needed to add a bed to it---this is it.  I’ve always loved daybeds, and when ikea put this clearance for $59.00 last year, I grabbed it. 

here’s what it looked like before I painted and sanded it.

I really wanted some sort of awning over it, and came up with this rusty metal one.  I added a fence edging, some ruffled tulle, and a string of white lights for fun.

I used 2 old table legs to hold the tin away from the wall.  at the top, there is a long 1x2 board with hinges attached to the top of the tin.  oh, and I added a couple coats of sealer to the top and underside of the tin panels—to keep the rust from flaking.

the angel wings found a new home on top.

there is a rod with shirred curtains, and a metal framed inspiration board hanging from them.

I’m not sure this is a “headboard”, but, funky junk has a party going on for "funky headboards" and I’m linking this up to it and to some of the parties below:)
