I hope everyone had a great weekend! its too hot for me outside, so, I tried stamping on metal this weekend. below are some of the tags I did. you can see all the mistakes—some letters are punched too hard, too soft, crooked, ect. I need more practice:)
but, this is fun and addictive! I’m hoping to do some xmas tags and embellishments for my ornaments this year. and I want to label some boxes in my craft room cubby, make some for my scrapbooking/card making, and for gifts—so many ways to customize anything.
basic supplies
hammer, steel striking block, blanks, sharpie, stamps, sanding block
edited: forgot to mention--see the tag on the steel block? i cut it out with a papertrey ink die and my die cutter from a coke can! very inexpensive! and the size of stamps i use here were 3mm or 1/8"--they came from hobby lobby.
the stamps come in a box-(red box in pic), but, they get jumbled up, so, my husband found a 2 x 4 scrap of pine and drilled holes into it. to keep the holes somewhat orderly, he used a scrap of dotted paper, poked holes into the pine, and then, drilled following the poked holes.
sanding and a quick coat of paint and it’s almost done. I’m going to add letters in front of each stamp, so, I can find a certain letter quickly.
I wish I had found this great video on youtube that explained how to line up the letters sooner.

I think your tags are neat not too "perfect," because it shows they're hand done and not facotyr made! Gives 'em character!!
Was looking at your post and saw you had punched Bentley that is the name of the street I live on.. Just moving here I hadnt really heard the name before but love it... Have a great day!

i found them at hobby lobby in the jewerly dept. there are lots of places on the net to get them, too:)
DeleteLynn, first, LOVE this and have always wanted to try it! Did you get all of the silver discs to stamp on at Hobby Lobby, and was the sharpie to fill in the letters. I Googled paper trey ink die and did not see anything, or did not know what I was looking for...Oh, I think we need another post breaking down these steps....Because I love the finished project....... I love everything you do!

yes, they came from hobby lobby, carol. and the yes, the sharpie is to fill in the letters. i will find the die link and post it on this post--should have done that to begin with:( i don't do tuts very well, but, i did give a link to a wonderful video with all the steps--be sure to watch that, ok? and if you have more questions, please ask:)

ReplyDeleteI was at an art fair this past weekend and one of the vendors had vintage spoons "stamped" with plant names and used them for markers. Very cool!

ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try this but I was kind of confused on the many stamps on the internet. I will definitely be checking out my Hobby Lobby. I would never have noticed which ones were crooked. I love the look. Very nice.

So cool! I think I like that the letters aren't all lined up. The somewhat "crooked" letters give the tags more character! Hmmm, I think my sock monkeys would like nametags to hang around their necks. :@
